At Royal Randwick in Sydney, Arrowfield Stud‘s Gr1-winning high profile stallion Snitzel (Redoute’s Choice-Snippets’ Lass, by Snippets) added a black-type success when 3YO colt Thronum (Snitzel-Helena’s Secret, by Five Star Day) scored by 0.2-length for trainers Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott in the $100,000 Listed Rosebud (1200m) for 3YOs.

Not only was this the first stakes victory for the talented Thronum, but it was also the first winner for the new training partnership of Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott. “You sort of have to pinch yourself but I couldn’t be happier,” 28YO Bott told AAP. “I’m delighted with that win.” He added: “She’s an incredible mentor and she’s there for the full support.” Thronum – whose third dam is Gr1 Irish Oaks winner Helen Street, dam of deceased Gr1 Dubai World Cup winner and recently crowned Champion Australian Sire Street Cry – was a $300,000 purchase by Sun Bloodstock at the 2015 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale from the draft of Highgrove Stud. He improved his record to 3 wins and 1 placing from 4 starts for $162,750 earnings.
