HIGH PRICED STOCKADE CLAIMS FIRST STAKES SUCCESS

High priced yearling Stockade continued his rise through the staying ranks with his first stakes success in the Geelong Classic (2200m).

Ridden by Kerrin McEvoy and trained by Lee Freedman, Stockade (Redoute’s Choice x Our Side Show (Snippets)) sustained a powerful finish to overhaul his stablemate Husonic (Hussonet x Galroof (Maroof)) with Paloma Bella (Golden Snake x Ton of Fun (Rory’s Jester)) third.

Stockade was one of 14 yearlings at the 2006 Inglis Easter Yearling Sale to make over $1 million when offered by Queensland’s Highgrove Stud and purchased by Sir Patrick Hogan’s Cambridge Stud NZ for $1.2 million.

He is a half-brother to prolific Queensland winner Omnitrader, but Stockade who is the first stakeswinner for his mother Our Side Show, who herself was poorly performed only placing from three starts.

Today’s win would tend to indicate further potential exists as well, and the Geelong Classic has shown a promising upward trend.
