2nd Stakeswinner For Fragmentation
ANZ Bloodstock News - 2 March 2010
Snippets mare Fragmentation has kept her perfect record intact after Shrapnel’s comfortable win in the Breeders’ Stakes (Gr 3) at Morphettville.
Fragmentation has had two foals to race for two stakeswinners, with her other progeny to the racetrack being the Fastnet Rock colt Wanted, a winner of the AJC Kindergarten Stakes (Gr 3) as a two-year-old.
Wanted has gone on to become one of Australia’s top sprinters with placings in the Group 1 Lightning Stakes, Patinack Farm Classic and William Reid Stakes. A controlling interest in the three-year-old was recently sold to Widden Stud for a seven-figure sum with his half-brother by Charge Forward set to come under notice after notching his first stakes win at just his second start.
Blue Sky Thoroughbreds paid $450,000 for Shrapnel at the 2009 Inglis Easter Yearling Sale, with Melbourne Cup-winning trainer Mark Kavanagh getting immediate results after the colt sat handy to the speed before beating Yosei and Spirited Princess.
Shrapnel became Charge Forward’s second stakeswinner with his Breeders’ Stakes win, with Ascot Vale Stakes (Gr 1) winner Headway the Arrowfield resident’s main flag bearer.
Shrapnel’s win has entrenched Charge Forward in the top 10 on the Australian second-season sires’ list with earnings of more than $750,000 to date.
