Highgrove's Timely Success
17 March 2011
Every yearling sale vendor knows the importance of a major pedigree update leading into a sale.
With this in mind, leading breeder Ron Gilbert and his Highgrove Stud could not have wished for a better result than the Stud has achieved in the past week.
Leading the way was Shrapnel’s dominant win in the Yallambee Classic (Gr 2, 1200m) on Adelaide Cup day prompting his trainer Mark Kavanagh to quip “He’s more than a very good horse”. Shrapnel’s win added even more depth to the Pedigree of his yearling half brother by Fastnet Rock being sold as Lot 252 at the Inglis Easter Yearling sale. The colt out of star mare Fragmentation is also a full brother to the Gr 1 Newmarket Handicap winner Wanted, and is sure to be one of the highlights in the Highgrove draft.
Not to be outdone, the Studs dual stakes producing mare Pause (Brief Truce) who is closely related to Toorak Toff and has a Street Sense filly entered for Easter, enhanced her already impressive record when Double Ranga and Hiatus both won last week for trainer Paul Messara who was delighted with the effort of both horses.
“Double Ranga’s win was very strong sitting 3 wide for most of the trip and still able to go away and win decisively” Messara said. “She will have a short let up now before heading to Brisbane to chase some black type over the Winter Carnival.”
Double Ranga and Hiatus were both purchased from previous Highgrove Easter yearling drafts by Blue Sky Thoroughbreds.
